How Hypnotherapy Can Help You Release Pain Now

Hypnotherapy is a pathway to access the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is where we hold all of our memories and beliefs. It is our beliefs that “run the show” in our lives. We may know something and believe it intellectually but if we don’t believe it in our gut and subconscious, our lives will not reflect the intellectual knowing. Our subconscious belief system is the driving force in our lives.

How Hypnotherapy helps

Let’s say for example you have a pattern of failed intimate relationships. Each choice you made may look a little different but as you examine it more closely you realize that there’s a thread of similarities. Maybe they weren’t trustworthy or emotionally available. Somewhere in your consciousness there is a belief that people can’t be trusted or that they are emotionally unavailable.

Through hypnotherapy, you can access the source of that belief and shift it. A recent client had a pattern of distrust in intimate relationships. While she noticed the pattern, she could not seem to break it. Through hypnotherapy she uncovered early childhood memories where promises made by her primary caregiver were consistently broken. She developed the belief that people cannot be trusted.

When we have a belief, we unconsciously set out to prove it. She proved it by unconsciously choosing untrustworthy partners. To a child their whole world is their caregivers. The way they experience life in early childhood is what they believe life to be. Through hypnotherapy, we were able to connect with her child self and shift the belief by showing her that all people are not untrustworthy. She learned what to look for in a partner and, most importantly, how to trust herself to choose wisely.

Sometimes memories can be painful- the purpose of going back to remember something is NOT to be re-traumatized or to re-experience the pain. The purpose is to observe and use that new perspective to move forward. When we shift at a subconscious level, we begin to make different choices and live our lives to the fullest potential.

What Happens in a Hypnotherapy Session

In a Hypnotherapy Session the therapist guides you into a state of relaxation - a trance state. In this state you have full access to your subconscious mind and the memories and beliefs which live there. People are sometimes concerned that they will lose control if hypnotized. This is not the case.

Although you are in a trance, you still have full control. I often feel like I have one foot where the therapist is guiding me and the other foot planted firmly right where I am. Believe it or not, we are actually in a trance state many times during the day. You might be in a trance state while immersed in your phone or while listening to music. It occurs more often than you may think.

Hypnotherapy vs Hypnosis

Hypnotherapy and hypnosis can sometimes be confused. They are in the same family however their uses are different. While both involve being in a hypnotic or trance state, Hypnosis is used to place a suggestion or idea in one’s consciousness whereas hypnotherapy is therapy while in trance state. Therapy while in trance state resurfaces memories which allows changes to be made. Placing a suggestion in Hypnosis is useful for stopping a behavior such as smoking or nail biting. Both Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy can be useful for treating anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues and more.

The Benefits Of Hypnotherapy

One profound benefit I’ve noticed with hypnotherapy is the speed with which things can change. The direct access to the subconscious mind makes all the difference. Another benefit is the practice of going within and listening to your true self. When we connect fully with ourselves, we learn more about what we desire to experience, who we truly are, and how to live a life of joy.

The specific benefits include:

  • Confidence building

  • Manage anxiety

  • Increase self esteem

  • Manage Depression

  • Eliminate addiction
